The name comes from Nepenthes, the Greek word for pitcher plants: "without grief." In mythology, it was a drug that made you forget your pain. I thought about that a lot while painting this. In many ways, I don't think I could have finished this one without living it first.
I built this piece in reverse - started with explosive color, let it dry for months, then came back with surgical lines and focused color. Fighting the chaos to create something clear. Over and over.
